About Scripture Union Zimbabwe Print E-mail

Scripture Union is an interdenominational and international Christian movement, working with children, young people and families through the effective use of national school systems and other related strategic alliances. It was started in England in 1867 with God giving the vision to Josiah Spiers at a resort town beach called Llandadno in Wales. He was later joined by many others to help birth this movement which started as Children Special Services Mission. During those years the church thought children would not understand the Word of God but they were expected to come to church, sit still and listen. At Llandadno beach Spiers realized that children were able to understand the Word of God if presented in a way that appealed to children.

Scripture Union came to Zimbabwe in the late 1930s but was officially started in 1945 with the first camp being held at Mutambara Mission in Manicaland. Globally, Scripture Union is active in 150 countries. Working with the Churches, Scripture Union aims to present children, young people and families with the claims of Jesus Christ and to help them apply Christian principles to all areas of life
