Scripture Union is an interdenominational, faith-based organization, which works with
young people and families. It is active in over 130 countries, beginning in England in
1867.

It came to Zimbabwe in 1945. Scripture Union aims to present children, young people and families with the claims of Jesus Christ and to help them apply Christian principles to all areas of life. As part of the Scripture Union working principles is the following statement:

‘We acknowledge that the gospel (Christian message) has inescapable social dimensions and therefore it involves us in service to others and a concern for social justice. In view of this we have a special responsibility for children and young people who are poor, deprived or exploited.’

Scripture Union Zimbabwe has been involved in AIDS Education for over 10 years and has the vision of an AIDS free generation. While the staff and volunteer helpers are Christians, Scripture Union works with people from all backgrounds regardless of religion, race, creed or gender. Scripture Union Zimbabwe is a registered welfare organization funded by Churches, individual Christians, donor organizations.

National Council with representatives from each region oversees the work and development of the movement. Under this body is a Management Board, which is appointed by the Council to conduct its business between meetings. The Council and functions appoint a National Director who also sits on the National Executive as the organization’s Chief Executive Officer. The current National Director is Dr. Leonard Makoni.
